North Charleston officers issue 115 citations, 48 warnings during Labor Day weekend patrols

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – More than 100 citations were issued to drivers in North Charleston over the holiday weekend.

The North Charleston Police Department warned that it would be out in full force for the Labor Day weekend with officers proactively working to combat unsafe driving and reduce traffic deaths.

A total of 115 citations and 48 warnings were issued by the department. Problems on the roads ranged from speeding to driving without a license or having a suspended license, and driving under the influence.

For speeding, NCPD’s officers issued 65 citations. The top speed in one instance was 104 mph in a 60 mph zone.

  • Speeding 11-15 mph over speed limit: 6 citations
  • Speeding 16-24 over: 54 citations
  • Speeding 25+over: 5 citations

Police handed out 20 citations for drivers without a license or those who were caught driving under suspension. Four citations were given for ‘moving violations’ and 25 for ‘non-moving violations.’

Moving violations often refer to running a red light or stop sign, texting while driving, or failing to use proper signals. A non-moving violation could include inattentive driving, driving while talking on a cell phone, or not wearing a seatbelt among others.
