Suspect arrested in North Charleston for breaking into neighborhood cars

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – North Charleston Police Department officers responded early Sunday morning to reports of an attempted car break-in in the Northwood Estates neighborhood.

Just before 3:45 a.m., a resident on Wylie Drive alerted police after capturing footage on their Ring camera showing a suspect pulling on car door handles.

Officer Peter Beck arrived on the scene and quickly located a man matching the suspect’s description on nearby Sinclair Drive. After a brief foot chase, Beck caught the suspect.

As officers investigated, several neighbors came outside and reported that their vehicles had been broken into.

The suspect, 26-year-old Steven Harrison, was found in possession of a window punch, a tool commonly used in vehicle break-ins.

Harrison has been charged with three counts of breaking and entering Autos. According to authorities, he has ten prior convictions for similar crimes.
