Charleston Police investigating fatal house fire in West Ashley

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston Police Department is investigating a house fire that left one person dead and another seriously injured in the 1600 block of Seabago Drive, West Ashley.

Officers responded to the scene shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Sunday following reports of a fire.

Firefighters from the Charleston Fire Department and Saint Andrews Fire Department conducted rescue efforts upon arrival.

One person was rescued from the home and taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. A second individual was found inside the residence and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and fire and police personnel are expected to remain in the area throughout the afternoon.
