Dash camera video shows Charleston officer saving man’s life on I-526 overpass

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston Police Department released Thursday dash camera video of an officer saving a man’s life along an interstate overpass.

It was August 8 when an officer responded to a call about a man who was threatening to jump from I-526. Once at the scene, the officer approached the man and calmly engaged in conversation with him.

The department said that when the officer saw an opportunity to resolve the situation safely, he pulled the man from the overpass edge and ensured he received the necessary help.

Charleston Police said the decision demonstrated the importance of the work law enforcement does in protecting those in need.

“The situation is a reminder of the critical split-second decision officers around the country make every day. We are proud of our officer’s timely and heroic actions, and that this person is safe,” the agency said.

CPD said it was grateful for its commitment to the safety and well-being of the community. They said if you or someone you know is going through a tough time or needs assistance, support is always within reach.
