NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Compass Collegiate Academy has moved to a new, permanent space. Local leaders, parents, and students celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The school was previously located in Downtown Charleston where it served 60 kindergarteners and first-graders in August 2021. Each year, the school is expanding until it reaches students between K-8. The enrollment is now over 170 students, which prompted the move to North Charleston.
“We’ve had incredible interest from families in Charleston,” Elizabeth Simpson, the founding executive director, said. “We have roots now, to be in a building where we can continue to expand and grow and offer our families that world-class education that they want and deserve.”
The academy is also a part of North Charleston Mayor Reggie Burgess’s plan to push academics and allowing for students to succeed during his term. Kathi Love, North Charleston Mayor’s Office Director of Children and Family Services, said how this school targets one piece of the Mayor’s goal.
