CPD: at least 13 cars had tires slashed on Eastside

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – From Reid Street to South Street, car owners in Charleston’s Eastside neighborhood dealt with flat tires this week after they were apparently slashed.

“It’s just like honestly so disappointing like that’s how I started my day,” Madi Mabey told News 2 Wednesday.

Charleston Police said at least 13 cars were hit in the overnight slashing spree Monday into Tuesday.

Mabey, a College of Charleston senior, said she was about to head to class Tuesday morning when she discovered her Jeep parked on Nassau Street had two of its tires slashed. She said the tires had three to four slashes, each.

“I had posted something about it and one of my friends in my sorority texted me being like, ‘I just got my tires slashed too,’ and there was like four other people who like I knew personally that got their tires slashed,” Mabey explained.

Avery O’Neal also attends the College of Charleston and lives in the same house as Mabey. She said her front right tire was slashed in the incident but has since been fixed. According to O’Neal, the damaged tire was not the first issue she’s had while living in the neighborhood.
