Charleston County schools adapt to state-mandated material restrictions, amid concerns

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – A new South Carolina Department of Education regulation with vague parameters restricts certain books and materials in public schools. The regulation gives the state board of education the final say over what material is allowed in schools, not local school districts. Board of Education officials said the goal is for uniformity, not censorship. And for schools to continue receiving state funding, each school district across South Carolina must implement the new regulatory practice.
