MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A fusion-style taco shop in Mount Pleasant said via Instagram it shut down last week after less than two years of being open.
White Duck Taco Shop announced on Oct. 23 that they served their last taco in the Charleston area. The shop opened on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard on May 17, 2023.
The restaurant began in Asheville, and store owners wrote that both the downtown and River Arts District spots were damaged when Hurricane Helene swept through the area.
“The impact of Hurricane Helene has left White Duck Tacos’ home in Asheville devastated, affecting our headquarters and our River Arts location. We’re overwhelmed by the love and support we have received during this time from our guests, partners, and local communities,” owners wrote.
“While we focus our efforts on rebuilding Asheville, we’re committed to continuing our mission to bring you the tacos you love, good times that create memories, and the vibrant community spaces that connect us all.”
At the beginning of October, White Duck closed Greenville’s Hampton Station location, citing Helene’s aftereffects, making it impossible to stay open.
