Outdoor fireplace may have sparked Daniel Island house fire

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – An outdoor fireplace may have sparked an early morning house fire on Daniel Island.

Charleston fire crews responded to a 911 call reporting a porch fire at a home on Smythe Street around 2 a.m.

Firefighters found an active fire on the porch of a three-story, single-family home and quickly worked to extinguish the flames, including what had extended into the home.

“The occupants escaped the home prior to the fire departments arrival,” Charleston Fire officials said.

After a review by members of the Fire Marshal’s Office, investigators determined the fire originated near an outdoor fireplace and the cause is believed to be accidental.

No injuries were reported. One adult and three children were temporarily displaced from the home.
