HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A 38-year-old Summerville man is facing charges following a South Carolina drug bust.
Anthony Lavar Simmons was arrested Friday morning after officials with the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office said he was found with more than 30 pounds of marijuana.
A K-9 deputy, Achilles, and his handler were credited with discovering the drugs during an operation. “Our K-9 units are essential to our mission of keeping drugs off the streets,” said Hampton County Sheriff Anthony Russell. “Achilles did an outstanding job in locating these narcotics, reinforcing the vital role of our K-9 team in protecting the community.”
Simmons is charged with trafficking marijuana. He is being held at the Hampton County Detention Center after his bond was denied.
“We remain dedicated to targeting the sources of illegal drugs in our county and protecting our citizens,” added Sheriff Russell. “Marijuana is illegal in the State of South Carolina, and this arrest sends a strong message to those engaged in drug trafficking that Hampton County will continue to pursue justice with all resources available.”
