Charleston Police to conduct safety checkpoint Thursday night

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston Police Department will crack down on unsafe driving this holiday season.

Police will conduct a traffic safety checkpoint Thursday night near the location where two women were struck and killed in a double hit-and-run earlier this year.

“Our goal is to keep our roadways safe and remind everyone to follow traffic laws. Please drive responsibly and plan ahead,” the department said.

Law enforcement agencies kicked off their annual “Sober or Slammer” campaign this month, which hopes to curb intoxicated driving and limit the number of deadly crashes during the holiday season.

Officers will conduct traffic enforcement throughout the city over the next few weeks.
