FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY: Brief wintry mix before cold and rainy Friday!

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Today is a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY has as we’re tracking potential impacts from a winter storm that will be moving through the Southeast. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Inland Colleton, Berkeley and Dorchester counties until Noon Friday. And a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Williamsburg, Clarendon and Orangeburg counties until Saturday morning. These are the areas where a light accumulation of ice have the best chance. A brief mix of wintry precipitation(sleet or snow) is possible at the onset of the moisture today. Any mix will likely change over to all rain as temperatures slowly warm at the ground level and aloft in the clouds. This changeover will occur late this morning and into the afternoon. No accumulation is expected east of I-95. Temperatures will climb above freezing this morning but will remain cold throughout the day. Highs will only reach the upper 30s and low 40s this afternoon. The coverage of showers will increase this evening and overnight as rain continues before we dry out through Saturday morning. Temperatures will rise overnight with mid to upper 40s along the coast, low 40s inland expected by Saturday morning. Rain showers should end around sunrise on Saturday with clouds giving way to sunshine during the day. Sunshine will continue into Sunday but below average temperatures will stick around all weekend with highs in the lower 50s.
