MUSC expands nursing school capacity and facilities

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Medical University of South Carolina’s College of Nursing opened a renovated first-floor education space that features a classroom, simulation lab, collaborative workspace and virtual reality pods that will allow the college to enroll 40 more students each year.

State leaders estimate they will see a shortage by 13,000 nurses in South Carolina by 2036. Catherine Durham is the Dean for the College of Nursing and she says it’s critically important for MUSC to help address the nursing shortage.

“We’ve had significant support across the Regional Health Network, not only to expand our capacity to train students in this new space but also enhance clinical rotations throughout the Regional Health Network to make sure that we’re educating students in the communities that they’ll go back and live in and take care of their community members,” Durham says…
