CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – A new lawsuit filed Wednesday is the third filed against the city of Isle of Palms and its police department in a shooting that injured five people in 2023.
The mother of a child who was wounded during the April 7, 2023, shooting, filed the suit. Two other lawsuits have been filed in connection with the shooting, which happened on a day dubbed “Senior Skip Day” that involved students from multiple area schools gathering for a day of partying on the Isle of Palms beach.
Shots rang out at around 5:15 p.m. near the Isle of Palms Pier as police were making an arrest in connection with a fight.
The victim in the newly-filed lawsuit, listed only as “Z.B.,” was wounded in the leg during the shooting.
Four months after the shooting, Isle of Palms Police identified a Summerville High School senior, 18-year-old Davion Bobby Del’Shawn Singleton, as the gunman.
