A horse drawn carriage halted traffic on part of Charleston’s peninsula Friday as it made its way from Broad Street to the Second Presbyterian Church carrying the casket of long-time attorney Gedney Howe lll.
Born in Charleston, Howe is remembered as a legal giant who took on high-profile cases, like the 1990 FBI corruption sting known as “Operation Lost Trust” in which more than a dozen lawmakers were indicted. Only Howe’s client escaped conviction in what has been called one the biggest political scandals in state history.
Howe represented the state senate twice in reapportionment lawsuits and was remembered Thursday at the statehouse by Sen. Ronnie Sabb as “an incredible individual who just happened to be a lawyer.”…
