FIRST ALERT: Strong storms, locally damaging winds likely Monday evening!

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Lingering showers will slowly taper off overnight, but the risk for strong to severe thunderstorms remains in place to start the work week! A First Alert Weather Day is now in place for Monday; strong to locally damaging gusts, short-lived downpours, and a low risk for hail and tornadoes will lead to inclement conditions for portions of the Monday evening commute.

TOP 3 HEADLINES:

  1. Low clouds and patchy fog are possible for the Monday morning commute.
  2. Strong to severe storms remain on track to approach the Lowcountry between 4-8 PM; strong winds and brief downpours are the primary risks.
  3. Temperatures turn very warm starting midweek with daily highs spanning the mid to upper 80s inland. Record-challenging warmth is expected Friday and Saturday.

Ahead of our main line of rain and thunderstorms, southerly winds will continue to promote a warm and humid night. Lingering showers should taper off before daybreak Monday. However, low clouds – and possibly patchy fog – are expected through early Monday morning.

Warm temperatures remain likely Monday afternoon behind a mild start to the day. Morning lows in the 60s will give way to temperatures in the low to mid 80s inland (low 70s at the coast) as early as noon…
