CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Recent studies seemingly linking fluoride to a drop in IQ in children prompted some state lawmakers to try to ban facilities like the Charleston Water System from adding it to drinking water.
Utah became the first state in the nation this week to ban adding the naturally occurring mineral to drinking water. A bill filed at the South Carolina State House would do the same.
At the Charleston Water System plant in Hanahan, the day starts with natural water flowing into the facility. Various mechanical systems separate dirt, pollen and other particles from the water before germs and bacteria can be killed.
