Vigil held for 15 Charleston County jail inmates who’ve died since 2020

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Families of multiple people who have died at the Charleston County jail in the past five years joined with other community members for a vigil at a North Charleston Park.

The Lowcountry Action Committee hosted the vigil to honor lives lost at the Al Canon Detention Center. After 10 inmates died since 2020, leaders and community members called for a federal investigation, which the Department of Justice launched in 2023.
