Community asked to help name new road leading to historic Johns Island tree

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) – The Lowcountry Land Trust is continuing its decade of work to protect a centuries-old tree in Charleston and, for this next step, it is inviting the community to take part.

The Angel Oak Preserve, a 44-acre property that will protect and ensure access to the Angel Oak tree, is a planned public gathering space that is meant to allow its visitors to learn about the history and significance of the 400-year-old tree.

A new entryway road is in the works for the future preserve, with the goal of keeping the weight of parked vehicles off the tree’s root system…
