CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The heat is on!! Summer officially begins at 10:42 this evening! Our last day of spring looks like another hot one with highs heading back into the 90s inland, 80s at the beaches. The heat index will top out near 100° this afternoon. Spotty showers and storms are possible this evening with most folks staying dry. Rain chances will be up slightly on Saturday with a few hit or miss afternoon and evening storms. We should be mainly dry again on Sunday with highs this weekend in the 90s.
All signs point to even hotter temperatures next week with a strong ridge of high pressure taking over the eastern half of the country. This means that high temperatures may climb into the mid to upper 90s with the potential of heat index values between 105-110°. Heat advisories may be issued by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
