Abandoned boats posing safety, environmental risk removed from Charleston waterways

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) – A collaboration between state agencies, Charleston County, the City of Charleston Harbor Patrol and a local nonprofit successfully removed two abandoned boats from Charleston waterways that leaders say were two of many posing safety and environmental risks to the area.

Once removed and on the Limehouse Boat Landing, Charleston County Public Works staff and volunteers spent about 20 minutes demolishing the boat, loading the debris into a dump truck and sending it off to a local landfill. Leaders say getting the boats removed is the hardest part, which takes a long time.
