Legislative session planned Tuesday to address hate crimes, state resolution

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston County council will meet Tuesday to discuss a resolution supporting hate crime legislation at the state level.

The county passed a similar resolution in 2019. It asks the state General Assembly to consider legislation pertaining to acts of violence motivated by prejudice.

The resolution cites FBI hate crime statistics that show that over the past five years, 57.94% of hate crimes were related to race, 19.12% were related to religion, 21.31% were related to sexual orientation or gender issues, and 1.63% were related to disability…
