ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCSC) – The Isle of Palms City Council passed a new local rule that beachfront properties on the southern half of the island can no longer build pools past their maximum build line, as erosion recently has threatened that area of beach.
“So, it’s a line where you can build your house up to, and in that particular area, you could build a pool even further out, which you know, for 50 years made some sense, because that part of our beach has been accretional,” Mayor Phillip Pounds said. “Sand has been building down there. We haven’t had erosion issues like we have on some of the other parts of the beach, but for the last two years, we’ve had pretty good erosion on the Breach Inlet end.”
