Isle of Palms Police will be enforcing new state law at golf cart parade

ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) –The Isle of Palms golf cart parade draws hundreds of people out every year, but this year’s parade might look a little different due to a new state law.

The annual Isle of Palms golf cart parade begins at 10 a.m. and IOP police say they will be strictly enforcing the state’s new golf cart laws. Drivers they must have a valid license, registration, permit, and insurance. Police will also be enforcing a new South Carolina law passed this year that says children under the age 12 must be wearing a seat belt in a golf cart.

“We’re going to be checking for everything any obvious safety issues. Children must be seated, and they must be strapped down you can’t overload the golf cart everyone has to have a seat,” said Isle of Palms Sgt. Matt Storen. “These rules are the same rules as driving a motor vehicle.”…
