Law enforcement cracks down on impaired boating with ‘Operation Dry Water’

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Between July 4-6, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and eight other local law enforcement agencies are joining ‘Operation Dry Water’ for heightened enforcement of impaired boating.

“[The Fourth of July] unfortunately is a holiday that is known for drinking, boating and deadly incidents associated with that,” said Taylor Kirshe, the chief operating officer for the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).

“It really gets congested, and we just recommend for people to slow down and take their time,” said Sgt. Andy Fitch with CCSO. “If you see blue lights, slow down. It becomes a ‘no wake’ zone if you’re in the area of blue lights.”…
