Faced with a lack of access to fresh produce in her North Charleston, SC food desert, Germaine Jenkins dedicates ten years of her life to creating Fresh Future Farm, an urban farm on an empty city lot. “Rooted” embarks on Germaine’s intimate journey and her resolute quest to own the land she farms — a critical first step in establishing stability for her community and sowing the seeds of generational wealth for her family.
This new documentary screens on July 19th at 8:00pm at The Luminal Theater’s ongoing outdoor program Films at the Farm. The program’s 2025 season is dedicated to films that focus on Black land ownership and stewardship. “Rooted” made its world premiere this past October at the 2024 New Orleans Film Festival.
Gemaine Jenkins will be in-person to participate in the pre-screening Q&A of “Rooted” alongside the documentary’s producer Lauren Waring Douglas. See more information at www.luminaltheater.org/events, community-priced tickets are available at bit.ly/Rooted_FF25…
