On Saturday, May 17, 2025, a Lowcountry Foster Parent Appreciation Event was held at Journey Church. The event with the assistance of Heartfelt Calling was a huge success. Foster parents participated in individual interviews that were played during the event. The most impactful and moving part of the event was when the biological mother of a set of twins, Erin Gilfillan, found out about the event and wanted to attend to support foster mother, Sharon Glazier. Sharon had cared for her children from birth to the age of two.
This was a successful reunification story and embodied the true essence of shared parenting and the two women are still actively involved in each other’s lives and have become friends through their fostering journey. Keondria Curnell, Lowcountry Transition Services and Support Team Leader, and the Mistress of Ceremony for the event, did an outstanding job and allowed her bright personality to shine.
Arnetta Washington, Lowcountry Kinship Coordinator, could not attend the event but provided a loving poem that she wrote to close out the ceremony. DSS would like to thank Journey Church for extending their facility for us to host the event and the staff who were present to assist with the supervision of the children and working the sound system…
