South Carolina Aquarium welcomes three new roseate spoonbill chicks

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The South Carolina Aquarium has welcomed three new roseate spoonbill chicks to their flock, expanding the species and contributing to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan program.

These new birds, fondly called “teaspoons” by the aquarium, are nestled within the Saltmarsh Aviary portion of the aquarium.

The babies are being cared for by Coral and Pearl the two resident adult spoonbills. In the wild, spoonbills live in colonies and parent their young as a group so Coral and Pearl’s cooperation is a sign of healthy husbandry and happy birds, according to the aquarium…
