NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A North Charleston Police Department mid-year crime update shows a nearly 50% increase in driving under the influence arrests.
The 2025 mid-year report shows the department saw a 13% decrease in the violent crime index since June 2024. Below are department crime statistics shared in the update:
- Homicides decreased by 33%
- Aggravated assaults decreased by 12%
- Robberies decreased by 18%
- Business burglaries decreased by 80%
- Personal robberies decreased by 3%
- Stolen vehicles decreased by 34%
- Larcenies decreased by 10%
- Gun arrests decreased by 36%
- Narcotics arrests decreased by 27%
Statistics also include an increase in DUI arrests by 48%. Department officials say increased staffing plays a role in getting these drivers off the streets.
