NCPD crime update shows increase in DUI arrests

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A North Charleston Police Department mid-year crime update shows a nearly 50% increase in driving under the influence arrests.

The 2025 mid-year report shows the department saw a 13% decrease in the violent crime index since June 2024. Below are department crime statistics shared in the update:

  • Homicides decreased by 33%
  • Aggravated assaults decreased by 12%
  • Robberies decreased by 18%
  • Business burglaries decreased by 80%
  • Personal robberies decreased by 3%
  • Stolen vehicles decreased by 34%
  • Larcenies decreased by 10%
  • Gun arrests decreased by 36%
  • Narcotics arrests decreased by 27%

Statistics also include an increase in DUI arrests by 48%. Department officials say increased staffing plays a role in getting these drivers off the streets.

North Charleston Police Department Captain of the Special Enforcement Bureau Andrew Glover says the department had 15 position vacancies as of last May.
