Dorchester County set to unveil options for major Dorchester Road widening project

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A long-awaited improvement project aimed at easing congestion on Dorchester Road is officially moving forward and county leaders are now asking the public to weigh in on how that fix should look.

The Dorchester Road Improvement Project would widen the road from just west of Old Trolley Road to the Charleston County line. County officials say it’s one of the most heavily traveled stretches in the region, with more than 40,000 vehicles a day and projections climbing to 53,000 by 2050.

“It’s frustrating,” said Sunshine Trakas, a project manager with Dorchester County Public Works. “As somebody who travels the corridor, it’s frustrating, even sometimes at times of day where you wouldn’t think you’d experience traffic, there’s traffic.”…
