City of Charleston leaders aiming to restore downtown creek, relieve flooding

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – City of Charleston leaders are looking to restore one of the peninsula’s few remaining tidal creeks by applying for grant funds.

The city’s Newmarket Creek Restoration and Flood Prevention project targets the creek that runs under Interstate 26 in downtown Charleston.

City of Charleston Director of Stormwater Management Matt Fountain says the city is working towards leveraging projects that tackle more than one obstacle in the area.
