North Charleston officer involved in videotaped Circle K interaction demoted

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – An officer has been disciplined after an internal investigation found he violated policies of the department during his interaction with a teen at a Circle K.

The North Charleston Police Department says the primary officer involved in the incident, in which a youth was detained at the gas station on Rivers Avenue and Otranto Road last week, has been suspended, demoted and removed from his patrol duties.

Police say the internal investigation concluded that the officer violated two department policies and procedures during that July 15 interaction with a teen, who had been detained over complaints that he had been selling Palmetto roses outside the gas station…
