NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Association of African American Museums (AAAM) conference is in the Lowcountry this week, as they emphasize the importance of protecting and preserving African American history.
Wednesday was the first day of the three-day conference. It’s happening during the 60th anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act, which ensured African Americans and other marginalized groups had the right to vote.
“The reason that we need to celebrate the Voting Rights Act is because it’s right on the heels of the Civil Rights Act,” AAAM president and CEO Vedet Colman-Robinson said. “And we wanted to make sure that all of our members were able to speak about the important work that they’re doing in their museums to preserve and interpret that history.”…
