Officer shoots shoplifting suspect’s dog during West Ashley arrest

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A shoplifting suspect’s dog was fatally shot Thursday evening when officers went to arrest the individual in West Ashley.

Charleston officers went to serve an active arrest warrant for Tobin James Pettiet, 51, near Radcliffe Place Drive and Bees Ferry Road around 4:30 p.m.

When police approached Pettiet, a “large, unleashed mixed-breed dog” charged at them. One officer backed away, but the dog continued to lunge, and another officer fired, according to the Charleston Police Department…
