HANAHAN, S.C. — A former South Carolina police detective is facing charges after allegedly stealing or withholding items from evidence, including tools he allegedly used to build a deck at his home.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) stated that 31-year-old Carlos Juan Fernando Reyna Hernandez of Hanahan was a detective sergeant for the Hanahan Police Department when he allegedly committed the crimes between January 2020 and June 2025, with many of the offenses occurring in the latter year.
According to a warrant affidavit provided by SLED, Hernandez is accused of stealing tools on four occasions from the Hanahan Police Department evidence processing room while he was in uniform.
