FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCSC) – Over 250 women from across the country are participating in an all-women surf competition on Folly Beach this weekend called the Wahine Classic.
The longest-running women’s surf competition on the East Coast is celebrating its 23rd anniversary on a mission to provide participants with a weekend of surf competition, camaraderie and female empowerment.
“If you come to the washout at any other day during the year, you will not see just girls in the water,” Nicole Elko, Folly Beach Wahine Classic director, said. “This gives us a chance to show the little girls, their moms, or grandmas winning a surf contest to have that accessibility to a sport that generally isn’t as welcoming.”…
