FIRST ALERT: Major North Charleston railroad crossing closing for 2 days

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, a North Charleston railroad crossing’s closing is expected to create some lasting traffic woes as a rail company completes “emergency” repairs.

Through 5 p.m. Friday, Norfolk Southern will be shutting down the crossing located on Ashley Phosphate Road, between Southrail Road and Palmetto Commerce Parkway, in both directions.

Officials for the City of North Charleston said Norfolk Southern informed them of the closing. The railroad corridor is under federal control and not the jurisdiction of the City, so they can elect to perform rail work at any time they deem necessary…
