FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCBD) — The Lowcountry is expecting heavy rain and flash flood risk this weekend, and Folly Beach is working on short- and long-term projects to lessen the effects of severe weather on the island.
Folly Beach residents are no strangers to flooding but the city has several projects in the works to change that. Work is underway on the Center Street Stormwater Improvement Project which officials say will significantly reduce flooding.
“It will more than double the capacity of what can be held and outflow to the river and double the storage because we’re implementing some green infrastructure and parking improvements up and down center street and some of the side streets,” said Folly Beach Director of Public Works Eric Lutz…
