Lowcountry restaurant fight claims made in amended federal Shrimpgate lawsuit

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A Charleston-area restaurant wants a lawsuit filed against them in June to be dismissed.

The South Carolina Shrimpers Association filed a lawsuit claiming that dozens of Lowcountry restaurants falsely advertised the use of local shrimp.

Saltwater Cowboys says in the motion to dismiss, they said the term local is ‘ambiguous’ and says that claims of restaurants not using local shrimp are not considered a factual statement and can not support a Landham Act claim. The motion also claimed the South Carolina Shrimpers Association does not have the constitutional standing for the court to hear the case…
