18 sentenced in North Charleston drug trafficking crime ring

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A drug trafficking ring out of North Charleston has been dismantled, with 18 people receiving a total of 144 years in federal prison.

The case stemmed from a lengthy wiretap investigation that was conducted by the Lowcountry Violent Crime Task Force, which targeted a violent street gang and its associates.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina, Fredrick McCray, 44, leader of the gang, directed drug distribution operations and armed his gang members with fully automatic machine guns to protect their territory from rival gangs and drug traffickers…
