MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) – A mother and her children are finally getting a home to call their own, thanks to Habitat for Humanity and a little bit of unexpected timing.
Christina Young, a single mother of two, relocated from Savannah to Berkeley County eight years ago and has been living out of her family’s garage with her boys ever since. With homeownership out of reach and rent prices too high, she struggled to find a safe, affordable option to get them out of their situation.
“Me and my boys have been living in the garage in a converted sort of one bedroom efficiency thing we’ve got going on. And I’ve been blessed to have the family… [and] to have some stability, but it’s been hard to try to get out of that situation. Even though I work full time and I’ve got kids, I was sort of losing hope that I would ever be able to afford to buy my own home,” Young says…
