VIDEO: Man who crashed during Berkeley Co. deputy pursuit leaving 1 dead faces 11 charges

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A Berkeley County man is facing nearly a dozen charges after he fled from law enforcement Saturday night and crashed into a vehicle, leaving one person dead and another seriously injured, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Eric Gerard Parrilla, 35, of Mulberry Crossing Lane, is charged with the following:

  • possession with the intent to distribute marijuana: BCSO
  • two counts of felon in possession of a firearm: BCSO
  • two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime: BCSO
  • resisting arrest: BCSO
  • failure to stop for blue Lights and sirens with great bodily injury: SCHP
  • failure to stop for blue lights and sirens resulting in death: SCHP
  • felony DUI with great bodily injury: SCHP
  • felony DUI resulting in death: SCHP
  • assault and battery in the 3rd : MCPD

The situation started when Berkeley County deputies were called to assist Moncks Corner officers around 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, about a fight involving a firearm at the Moncks Corner Walmart.

When deputies arrived, they saw the suspect, identified as Parrilla, fleeing in a silver Mercedes SUV. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, which Parrilla ignored, and a pursuit ensued…
