“Phantom DUI Checkpoint” in Berkeley County leads to multiple arrests

BERKELEY COUNTY- On August 23, at 8:00 p.m., the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office conducted a Phantom DUI Checkpoint as part of its ongoing efforts to deter impaired driving and keep county roadways safe.

This operation was made possible through a grant from the Commission on Drunk Driving Prevention (CDDP), awarded to the Sheriff’s Office for the second consecutive time. The grant provides funding for salaries to conduct DUI enforcement, as well as a DUI trailer and equipment to support these operations.

A Phantom Checkpoint is announced to the public like a traditional DUI checkpoint; however, instead of being stationed at one location, deputies patrol multiple roadways throughout the county.
