CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A new West Ashley neighborhood could move one step closer to construction, but not without more scrutiny from Charleston City leaders.
The proposed Somersby subdivision, a 704-unit mixed-use development, is making its second appearance before the city’s Technical Review Committee Thursday morning. There, officials will decide whether the project is ready to move into preliminary approval stages or if it requires further changes to address growing concerns from residents.
Set near the corner of Dorothy Drive and Larissa Drive, the nearly 300-acre site is currently made up of quiet forest and wetlands. Some neighbors use it as overflow parking or a makeshift basketball court.
