Volunteers help ensure a clean Folly Beach for Labor Day

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCSC) – The Surfrider Foundation Charleston chapter is making sure beachgoers are only leaving footprints behind on the sand for Labor Day.

About 40 volunteers signed up to accompany organizers at the Folly Beach Pier at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Organizers say the chapter’s beach sweeps average up to 200 pounds of trash.

Beach sweep coordinator Luke Johnson says the Labor Day Beach Sweep is one of the branch’s largest clean-up events for the year. He says the holidays bring in large populations to the Lowcountry, especially the area’s beaches such as Folly Beach…
