84-year-old woman in memory care dies after being thrown to the ground by another resident

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — An 84-year-old woman living in a Mount Pleasant memory care facility died in late August after being thrown to the ground by another resident, according to local officials.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Margarette Cooper, who lived at the Artisan assisted living facility. Cooper died on Aug. 24 at the Medical University of South Carolina.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department said the case was initially being investigated as an assault before changing to a death investigation. On Aug. 23, MPPD responded to the Artisan to find Cooper lying on the ground unconscious. Officers were advised that another resident had been walking next to Cooper in the hallway before grabbing the front of her collar and throwing her to the ground, causing her to lose consciousness, according to an incident report…
