Ten Mile Community pushes for protections to preserve Gullah-Geechee heritage amid growing development

Some changes may be coming to the Ten Mile Community to protect the culture and history as the area continues to grow.

The Ten Mile Community started out as an African American settlement nearly 200 years ago and has kept much of its unique culture and history alive.

With development encroaching, community members are asking Charleston County Council for custom regulations to protect it for future generations…
