Charleston County’s planning commission to discuss plans to protect 10 Mile community from large-scale development

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston County’s planning commission will meet Monday to discuss plans to protect the culture and history of the 10 Mile community as the area sees growth.

The 10 Mile community started as an African American settlement nearly 200 years ago. Community members are now asking Charleston County for custom regulations to protect the area for future generations.

They have been working for the past few years to gather public input for the plan, which would allow one home per acre in the rural area and three homes per acre in the suburban portion…
