Man charged with having stolen gun after North Charleston traffic stop

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – North Charleston Police say a Moncks Corner man is facing a charge after a traffic stop early last week.

Jvaariez Sumpter, 19, is charged with possession of stolen goods, according to jail records, which show he has since been released after posting a $2,000 bond.

Police say they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Northwoods Boulevard because of a defective tag light on Sept. 1.

The smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle prompted a probable cause search and officers found approximately 30 grams of marijuana, police say. A release from the police department states officers also found a handgun under the passenger seat.
