James Island woman reflects on historic role in desegregating SC schools

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) – One of the 11 students to integrate Charleston County Public Schools six decades ago still calls the Lowcountry home in her retirement years.

Dr. Millicent Brown is a Charleston native who was raised in an activist household. Her father, J. Arthur Brown, was very involved in the NAACP at the state and local levels.
